Meet Karen Burkes
Karen took her first yoga class shortly after joining a new gym in 2003. Less than a year later, she was living in the Midwest and had taken a hiatus from yoga. By 2011, Karen was back in DC and looking for a way to relieve stress when yoga re-entered her life. Yoga has not only become a way for her to relieve stress but also has helped her truly connect with her body, mind, and spirituality. While at a yoga retreat on a mountain in Costa Rica, she decided that it was time to share her love of yoga with others. A year after that decision, in the spring of 2017, she completed her 200 RYT at Embrace Yoga DC with Faith Hunter.
She has taught vinyasa flow, slow flow, yin, and beginner yoga classes in DC and is currently in Raleigh, NC. Karen is passionate about providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for yoga. She has grown a lot on this journey, opening herself up to new experiences and practices. Meditation is another practice that she has embraced, incorporated into her life, and shared with others.
Also while on this journey, Karen became interested in Reiki and completed Level I and II Reiki training with Jessica Maher in DC. Her wellness journey is steady as she continues to grow, clarify her purpose, and identify the best ways to share her gifts.
